Chris Kavanagh is the referee appointed to Manchester City's clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, the Premier League have confirmed.
Enzo Maresca and his Manchester City players have seen a difficult task on Merseyside made all the more challenging both from a football perspective and psychologically, given events of the ongoing international break.
In the last three weeks, an independent commission found City guilty of all but one of their 115 charges issues by the Premier League for breaches of the English top-flight's financial rules over a period of nine seasons.
The findings, which were released by the Premier League in the last few days, revealed that Manchester City had artificially inflated their commercial revenues by around £830 million over an extended period.
Until this week, figures within the first-team set-up have not had opportunity to discuss the matter, although the expectation is that Enzo Maresca's pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon will be dominated by dialogue around the matter.
Now, ahead of the meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City, the Premier League have announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at Anfield!
Match Referee
The Premier League have confirmed that Chris Kavanagh has been handed responsibilities of on-field match referee at Anfield on Sunday afternoon for Manchester City's visit to face Liverpool.
The 41-year-old, Manchester-born official will be taking charge of his seventh game of the ongoing season across competitions, having officiated in the Premier League, UEFA Europa League qualification, Nations League, and Champions League qualification.
In his professional officiating career, Kavanagh has overseen matches involving Manchester City on 17 occasions, with 11 of those resulting in a victory for the Sky Blues, three ending in a draw, and three resulting in defeat.
Manchester City have been on the receiving end of 30 yellow cards issued by Chris Kavanagh, who has also awarded four penalties to the Etihad Stadium outfit across his 17 matches involving the club.
Kavanagh has not come across Manchester City since mid-April, when Pep Guardiola's side cruised to a 0-3 win away at Chelsea in the Premier League, receiving just a single yellow card in the process.
Assistant Referees
Accompanying Chris Kavanagh on Merseyside on Sunday afternoon will be match officials Dan Cook and Nick Greenhalgh, appointed into the roles of assistant referees by the Premier League.
Video Assistant Referees
Overseeing Liverpool against Manchester City from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park this weekend will be referee Paul Howard as the Video Assistant Referee, seated alongside Nick Hopton - appointed as the Assistant Video Assistant Referee.
Fourth Official
Standing between the two Anfield dugouts on Sunday and managing proceedings involving Andoni Iraola and Enzo Maresca will be referee Andy Madley, appointed as the game's fourth official.
